The Sitar School of Toronto is dedicated to producing sitar players of high calibre and provides the best quality instruction in Indian Classical Music. We conduct intensive workshops at SSOT three times a year. Anwar Khurshid has very meticulously nurtured the students, providing traditional instructions and helping them to develop a passion for music. The atmosphere of the school is that of a big family and great friendships are formed as students progress together and help each other to grow.
Sitar School of Toronto organizes a few concerts and workshops every year. This year we are organizing a sitar concert by our director Anwar Khurshid who will be accompanied by the world famous tabla player Ustad Tari Khan. Ustad Tari Khan will perform and conduct tabla workshops in Toronto. In fall we are having the famous North Indian Violin player Anupriya. There are important classical musicians who are not getting exposure in Canada that we would like to promote. We also provide a forum for Canadian musicians to develop and present their art in Canada.
Our students perform regularly on stage. Within the last few years the students have performed for community events such as cultural shows, fund raisers, weddings T.V and radio.
We are striving to be the best institute for Indian Classical Music in North America.
The primary objective of the Sitar School of Toronto is to provide the best quality instruction in Indian Classical music in North America. Our students receive the benefit of both individual and group classes. Students receive consistent and meaningful direction best suited to their individual needs. Our classes stress highly upon students developing impeccable technique, a thorough understanding of music theory, but most importantly a love for music. The SSOT also provides secondary training in Tabla and Vocal music because we consider them as important features of an education in Sitar. We have a broad knowledge and deep understanding of the history and culture of North Indian classical music. Our archive of sitar music, audio and video recordings, provides access to the great sitar players of past and present. The classes at The Sitar School of Toronto promote an atmosphere of sharing and musical growth among the students.
Workshops at SSOT are held three times a year. The workshops are open to anybody with a desire to learn and play music! Sitar players of all levels, as well as those who wish to begin learning without having any prior experience, are all welcome. They also have the added advantage of witnessing others being taught and as a result learn from listening - an approach that is considered very important and is an essential part of the teachings at SSOT. By attending the workshops you can find out about the SSOT first hand and by talking to other students, as most of our students generally participate. You are welcome to come and take advantage of the workshops being offered. For Information about when they are held please call (416) 284 7171 OR e-mail here.
