Akram Khan

 

Mohd. Akram Khan belongs to the Ajarara Gharana of Meerut city. It is considered one of the foremost schools of tabla. He was born in 1965 in Meerut city and received his initial training from the Late Ustad Niazu Khan. His other teachers included his great grandfather Ustad Mohd. Shafi Khan, and he is currently under the tutelage of his father Ustad Hashmat Ali Khan. Akram Khan has been performing since a very young age, and has particapated in a variety of prestigious festivals across the country and abroad. He has performed very successfully with Ustad Vilayat Khan. He is currently touring with Ustad Shahid Parvezin the United States. His varied accomplishments include passing the Sangeet Praveen, and Sangeet Visharad Chandigarh as well as getting a bachelors degree in Commerce. In 1993, he was appointed as a Professor in the University of Washington, Seattle. The quality of Akram Khan's performance has won him a respectable place in the music world.
